Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's departure from the household, the actress was raised up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. When she was a young girl Ford was afflicted with anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive condition. Ford began to be interested in acting at the age of teenager, and she joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford gained entry to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but decided after a week that she would not be a good fit there. Ford reapplied to Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth application she was admitted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler as a regular character on Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993 but, by that time she already had made her TV debut on an episode from 1991 in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Through the Nineties, Tate could be watched on television in programs like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Alongside her usual performances in the theatre, Tate also joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. However, Tate soon began to garner notice for her stand-up comedy, which she added to her show in 1996.
